Since I bought my iPhone 5 I had the feeling the battery was draining too fast. I was right, though. Some days ago, however, I noticed the battery lasted longer and I didn’t need to charge it twice a day. Actually, I always arrive home with about 20%. “How did I do that?” I thought. Simple: I just opened every application and checked the settings.
That’s the problem. iPhone is wonderful and it has a lot to offer and, therefore, it uses a lot of power. The question is: how can I use all it has to offer if my battery is dead in less then 5 hours?
Simple: check your settings.
I just want to emphasize that I am totally against turning off 3G /4G and wi-fi as well as location services.
Why? If you turn off the data connection, just buy a regular phone. Phones nowadays require Internet connection to do simple tasks such as checking the Facebook and emails once and again.
Here are the tips to help you extend your iPhone battery life.
1. Turn on Auto-brightness
In the settings app -> Brightness & Wallpaper -> Auto Brightness On you can adjust the brightness of the screen based on the light around it and it saves battery when you are in dark places.
2. Reduce Screen Brightness
In settings -> Brightness & Wallpaper you can control the default brightness. Keeping the screen dimmer makes the phone conserve more of your battery.
3. Auto-Lock Sooner
Auto-Lock makes your iPhone to go to sleep after a certain amount of time. The sooner it sleeps, the less power is used. Try setting to 1 minute and you will be fine.
4. Turn Off System Services
In Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services you can regain some battery life by turning off some location services you do not use such as Diagnostics & Usage, Genius for Apps, Location-Based iAds and Traffic.
5. Collect Data
In some apps like Viber you have settings that are set by default that collect your data. Maybe this is the most important step to extend your battery life. Go through each one of them and take a look at the settings, see below some pictures:
5. Turn off Apples’ Diagnostics & Usage
In Settings -> General -> About -> Diagnostics & Usage you select Don’t Send to help preserve battery life.
After following these easy steps I noticed that iPhone 5 went from 100% to 97% (with wifi on) while sleeping – 8 hours. Unbelievable!
Give it a try.
